Welcome!

Spring is rolling along and the garden center is full to bursting. The beginning of the month will bring perennial plants from our nursery, with more unusual and native choices than ever before. Roses and other flowering shrubs (including tropicals!) will be on the scene for Mother’s Day. By the middle of the month, tomato starts will be ready to join the deep offering of veggie seedlings already available, with eggplants, peppers, cucumbers and more close on their heels.

Our spring harvest has been great. The raised beds in our hoop houses gave us an early jump (with all that sunshine pitching in) to provide loads of beautiful lettuces, spinach, mesclun mix, hakurei turnips, chives and radishes. Microgreens, spring dug parsnips, pea tendrils and scallions are also making regular appearances. Occasional cameos include mushrooms and asparagus. We are looking forward to more field crops beginning to roll in as spring progresses.

Here’s a brief breakdown of some May highlights:

Pruning Demonstration with Dave Anderson
Saturday May 11th: 10am-Noon
Join arborist Dave Anderson of Hartney Greymont as he shares expert advice on pruning trees and shrubs in your home landscape. Dave will lead an in depth discussion and demonstration with plenty of opportunity for questions and answers. Free and open to all.

Mother's Day Potting Station
Saturday May 11 and Sunday May 12: 9am-Noon
Pot-up a beautiful gift for your favorite Mom! Plant a 6" terracotta pot with the herb or flower of your choice. Everything you need is included and we will be on hand to help. Cost $10.

Bedford Blueberry Goat Farm
Saturday May 11th: 10:30-2:30pm
Bedford Blueberry Goat Farm will be here for a goat milk tasting...with special guest Sophie the goat on the scene!

Also in in time for Mother’s Day and making their debut - Runner and Swedish ducklings! Visit their new home in the barn next to Curtis and Willard, our beloved Scotch Highland steer.

Greenhouse Chat with Farmer Ethan
Saturday May 18th: 10am-10:30am
Get your veggies off to a good start. Join Ethan for a chat on tomato, eggplant and pepper plants. He will be discussing planting and care techniques, an overview of the varieties we have grown, as well as his favorites. Bring your questions. Free and open to the public.

Jordan Brothers Seafood
Every Wednesday from 2pm-6:30pm.
We spell delicious F-I-S-H when Bobby’s on the farm. Looking for shellfish, too? Just email jordanbrothersseafood@yahoo.com or call 508-583-9797 by 5am Wednesday morning for pick-up on the farm.

On the Edge Knife Sharpening
May 7th from 2:30 to 6:30
Let Patti work her magic on your knives and pruners. Look for her van and ninja quick knife skills in our parking lot the first Tuesday of every month.
