Foraging Walks With Russ Cohen

The Greater Boston area is home to over 150 species of edible wild plants, many of which are more nutritious and/or flavorful than their cultivated counterparts.  Join Russ Cohen, expert forager and author of "Wild Plants I Have Known...and Eaten", on a two hour ramble through Allandale Farm to learn about at least two dozen species of edible wild plants.  Pending favorable weather conditions, several edible mushroom species may be encountered as well. Keys to the identification of each species will be provided, along with information on edible portion(s), season(s) of availability and preparation methods. General guidelines for safe and environmentally responsible foraging will also be discussed.

Birthday Parties on the Farm

Looking to have a one-of-a-kind, outdoor birthday experience for your child? A birthday party at Allandale Farm means exploring the farm like never before! Field Trips

Interested in bringing a school or camp group to the farm? We offer interactive field trips where students can connect to the natural world and experience life on a real working farm. By touring our fields and seeing how we grow our crops sustainably, students will learn about local, seasonal produce. They will also be able to observe bee hives as well as resident hawks, blue herons and other critters who call our farm home. Plus, students can learn about composting through hands-on activities. Summer Kickoff Barre Class on the Farm

We’re teaming up with farm-friend and barre instructor, Brittany Sousa for her big return to Boston! Join her for a 60 minute outdoor barre class on the farm followed by refreshments from Juicygreens Boston. As at every class with Brit, there will be lots of sweat, laughs, and good music!

Spring Wreath Making Workshop

Welcome spring with a decorated wreath! Our Greenhouse Manager will lead workshop participants in creating their own unique grapevine wreath. Each workshop participant will have access to a diverse variety of live air plants, mosses, flowering branches, dried flowers, and other artful natural additions. We will cover caring for your living wreath and plenty of tips and inspiration as you create your own. The $40 workshop fee includes: a 12” grapevine wreath, three large air plants of your choice, access to the wreath buffet. There will be opportunity for added air plants and premium xerographica air plants at an additional cost.

Seed in the City Workshop

There will also be a free greenhouse tour at noon, open to all!

Start your spring off right! Our seed starting workshop covers all the essentials from selecting the right seeds and seedling care to when to transplant your seedlings outside. Whether you’re new to gardening or a seasoned pro, all are welcome!  We will provide seedling trays/domes, labeling materials, growing mix, and our expert guidance. You are welcome to bring seeds from home or purchase seeds in our store. We’ll also have some seeds to share. Let's get growing!

Terrarium Workshop

Join Greenhouse Manager, Julie Steinhoff as she guides you through the creation of your own unique glass terrarium. Julie will help workshop participants decide between lush, humidity loving, low-light tropicals or modern, dryscape succulents for their creation. Each workshop participant will have access to a diverse variety of glass vessels, plants, and our fabulous terrarium bar. Topics covered include choosing plant varieties, soil and nutrient needs, design techniques, and caring for your terrarium – plenty of tips and inspiration as you plant your own. The $40 workshop fee includes: a glass vessel, four plants of their choice, specialized soil, access to the terrarium bar.  There will be opportunity for added plants at an additional cost.

Wreath Making Workshops

December 4th, 6th, 11th, or 13th
6pm-8pm

Get ready for the holidays by decking your halls with a beautiful fragrant wreath!  From weaving in winterberry to crafting the perfect bow, we'll teach you all our insider tricks for creating a fabulous wreath that reflects your unique style.  Each participant will receive a fresh 14" balsam fir wreath (roughly 26" outside diameter) to decorate. We will provide an eclectic assortment of decorations, a lovely ribbon selection and all necessary tools.

October Hayrides

Hop on the wagon, plop on a straw bale, and join us for a ride around our fields to see where it all grows and take in the fall colors. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children 10 & under.

Cider in the City

Wednesday, November 7th
6pm - 8pm

Cider in the City celebrates all things delicious with apples. We will have hot cider, hard cider, apple pastries, music and a delicious spread of local cheese paired with heirloom apple varieties to sample. Plus, many of our favorite vendors will be in attendance showcasing their own labors of love. This cozy community event is FREE and open to all!

Fall on the farm with STARR YOGA

STARR YOGA & Allandale Farm are joining together to kick off the fall season!
Join Brittany Sousa, lead barre instructor for a 30 min. taste of the STARR BARRE class followed by 30 min. of STARR Flow (Vinyasa yoga) w/ owner, Julie Starr.
Class will be held in one of the greenhouses for an authentic farm feel. Fall themed refreshments will also be served after class picnic style by the pond.
The class is $35 and pace is limited so be sure to sign up here. And don't forget to B.Y.O.M - bring your own mat!

Allandale Farm Dinner with Mei Mei

After our sold out 2017 events, the folks from Mei Mei food truck & restaurant are throwing another dinner party at Allandale Farm! The dinners will take place in the lovely, rustic Allandale greenhouses! Bring your friends and family for a multi-course menu designed by James Beard-nominated chef Irene Li featuring lots of Allandale-grown produce. Tickets are $76 and include one alcoholic drink (or non-alcoholic Haymaker's Punch), and we'll also have a cash bar for other beverages from our friends at The Beer Mobile. 4th Annual Chili Cook-Off

Allandale Farm is hosting our 4th annual Chili Cook-Off! We are looking for interested chefs (aspiring or actual) to fire-up those pots and join the contest.  The first prize winner will receive bragging rights and a $100 gift card to the farm.  Other prizes will be awarded to worthy runners-up.  This season, all chili chefs will receive a $20 Farm Bucks stipend to use on Our Own produce to go towards ingredients!  Please pre-register as space is limited to 15 participants.  This event will benefit our dear friends at Lovin' Spoonfuls, a local food rescue organization.

Bring the whole family for some live music, grilled corn, Maple Valley ice cream, and a hayride around the farm. Games for kids and ice cold beer from Trillium Brewery will be available, as well. Plus, at 2pm we'll have our first ever pie eating contest with pie from Ever So Humble Pies! This event is FREE and open to all. We can't wait to send off the 2018 summer with our neighbors and friends!

Massachusetts Tax Free Weekend

Come together with neighbors and friends and support your local farm by helping us weed our fields! Join us for a few hours in the fields to see the land and the hard work that lie beyond our retail space. Community Exchange: You donate your time and sweat, we share our love of this land and farming! Returning to our Roots

There are many readily available medicine roots that offer the human body deep nourishment and vitality. Fall is the traditional time to unearth these underground botanical treasures and to incorporate them into our daily lives to help us stay strong and nourished throughout the winter months. In this fun and informative workshop we will discuss, taste, and experience several wild and cultivated medicinal roots such as burdock, dandelion, yellow dock, chicory and astragalus. You will learn about their medicinal value and how and when to use each at home. We will also sample a special root-based chai tea blend in class! $25 per participant and space is limited.
