We’re excited to have you join us for an event on the farm! Getting to share our knowledge of & love for the land is one of the great joys of doing this work. Attending a workshop, walk, class, and/or festival gives you the opportunity to build community with our team, as well as your neighbors! Scroll down to read about past events.

2024 Events on the Farm
Flower Bunching on the Farm - Participants got a tour of our Flower Fields and learned more about the process for seed selection, growing, and harvest. After a brief tutorial on the basics of bunching, participants created their own stunning bouquets.

Common Ground Film Screening in the Glass Greenhouse -

Farm-to-Table Dinner with Thistle & Leek -
“It was all amazing! It felt warm and welcoming and the right amount of fancy. I enjoyed the farm tour and learning more about the property and produce. The food and drink was simply incredible. We sat with folks we didn't know and ended up exchanging numbers . . .perhaps new friends. It was such a fun evening and I look forward to doing it again! Lastly, the staff handle the terrible weather (lightning and torrential downpour) was grace, humor, and confidence. Truly a 10/10!”
Queer Birding with Emily - This beginner-friendly bird walk at Allandale Farm was in celebration of Pride Month and the LGBTQ+ community! Attendees explored the farm grounds, spotting birds and discussing the fascinating ways queerness is present in the animal kingdom.

Daffodil Harvest - About 25 folks joined us for a morning on the farm harvesting their own daffodil bulbs for next season! We discussed best practices for bulb storage and planting & participants walked away with an overflowing armful of bulbs.

Tomato Talk in the Greenhouse - Our General Manager Helen hosted this informal discussion and Q&A on everyone’s favorite garden diva, the tomato.
“It was great! I learned a lot from Helen, and we were in a lovely setting by the pond. I really appreciated the chance to learn from an expert!”
Rose & Lilac Chats in the Shrub Yard - Master Gardener Mary shared all of the tips and tricks of the trade for planting, caring for, and maintaining these fragrant spring beauties.
“[Mary] is awesome! I learned about lilacs, bought one, and then went home to plant it with my new found knowledge.”
Invasive Species Workday - At this Earth Day weekend event, Allandale community members gave back to their local ecosystems during this invasive species removal event! Local ecologist Emily Carvalho led an educational discussion about the ecology of invasive species and their impact. Participants learned plant identification and manual removal techniques as we tackled the commonly used ornamental plant, Burning Bush.
Kokedama Workshop - Kokedama is the Japanese art of growing plants from a moss-covered ball of soil; participants made their own beautiful kokedama to take home.
Mushrooms with Mike: Shiitake Log Inoculation Workshop - Folks joined us for an introductory course in mushroom log cultivation. Everyone in the class received the materials to inoculate their own shiitake log—participants hammered spores, sealed them with local beeswax, and brought their logs home to enjoy an unending mushroom supply!

Edible Plant Walk with Emily - At this interactive foraging walk, attendees learned to safely identify edible plants as they change from winter to spring. The walk included a harvesting demonstration of Garlic mustard and ended with a foraged tasting.
“Emily was so knowledgeable; open to all questions; it was so fun to learn from her. And then she gave us some if her homemade goodies which was a wonderful ending. Will definitely return for more of her walks.”
Seed in the City - Our seed starting workshop covers all the essentials from selecting the right seeds and seedling care to when to transplant your seedlings outside. We provided seedling trays/domes, labeling materials, growing mix, and expert guidance—participants left feeling empowered to grow their own veggies from seed!

Twig Field Harvest Walk - Participants were able to take a peek behind the curtain at the start of our growing season. Farmer Mike led the group & talked about successive seasonal blooming, coppice pruning, harvest techniques, and the big renovation and restoration project the field team has undertaken out at Twig Field. At the end, folks got a chance to cut their own fabulous stems of pussy willow to bunch and bring home for months of enjoyment.
